The Ball Company

Magnetic Balls for the Hearing Impaired Print PDF
HörgerätThere are about 80,000 deaf people across the globe. Just a few years ago, they used to have been implanted special devices into their ears. They worked with fixed magnets. But there was a major shortcoming to it. Every time the hearing impaired needed a Magnetic Resonance Imaging for their head (after injuries etc.), the magnetic fields made the implanted magnets exert high pressure to the brain, which could have resulted in damages of the brain.

The new implants for the inner ear, which are made of magnetic balls, can be seen as a huge improvement and an innovative step. If the magnetic field of the balls is turned off for a while, the balls are free to move in every direction, which prevents them from exerting high pressures to the brain. There will be no damages.
